Guidance on Governor Dayton's Trade Mission to China | Asian ...

St. Paul, MN ? Departing tomorrow, June 8, 2012, Governor Dayton will be leading 50 delegates representing Minnesota businesses, agriculture organizations, service sectors, academic institutions and government officials on a trade mission to China.

China is Minnesota?s second-largest export market for manufactured goods.? It is the state?s top market for agricultural commodities and related food products.? Additionally, this year marks the 30 year anniversary of the sister state relationship between the State of Minnesota and Shaanxi Province.? Governor Dayton and the delegation will be traveling to Shaanxi to reaffirm this relationship.

The delegation will travel to Beijing, Shanghai and Xian (the capital of Shaanxi Province) for business briefings, networking events and meetings with key U.S. and Chinese government officials.? Individual delegates will have the opportunity to make business contacts and meet potential business partners and investors through the specialized services of a business-to-business concierge service.

Members of the delegation will have an opportunity to tour cultural sites in Beijing, including the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City.? In the evening, Governor Dayton will host a traditional Chinese welcome dinner for the members of the delegation.

Monday, June 11, 2012

Governor Dayton will attend a private meeting with Ambassador Gary Locke, at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.? Following this meeting, representatives from the U.S. Embassy will provide an official political briefing of China for Governor Dayton and the delegation.? The U.S. Commercial Service will also brief the delegation on business opportunities in China.

In the afternoon, Governor Dayton will meet with Minister Yuan of the Education Ministry.? He will be joined in this meeting by University of Minnesota Vice-President Robert Jones, Metropolitan State President Sue Hammersmith and St. Cloud State University President Earl Potter.

Later, Governor Dayton will meet with Vice Premier Li Keqiang of the People?s Republic of China.

In the evening, Governor Dayton and the delegation will attend a reception and dinner hosted by Cargill.

Members of the Delegation will have an opportunity to tour the Beijing Royal School, a Chinese-Foreign joint cooperative school, established by Cambridge University as one of the Cambridge International Centers to enroll domestic and overseas students.? The school recruits junior and senior high school students to attend top universities around the world.

The delegation will be hosted by the Fazheng Group for lunch at the Diaoyutai State Guest House.

In the evening, Governor Dayton and the delegation will travel by air to Shanghai.

In the morning, Governor Dayton will attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Greater MSP and Minnesota Trade Office Minnesota-China Office in Shanghai.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, Governor Dayton will sit down for a private meeting with board members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham), and an interview with AmCham Magazine.? The private meeting will be followed by a networking luncheon with members of the delegation and AmCham Shanghai.

Governor Dayton is scheduled to speak to members of the Chinese media in Shanghai before attending a reception and dinner hosted by Greater MSP and sponsored by Minnesota companies and organizations.

Governor Dayton will attend meetings that individual delegates have arranged with Chinese businesses.

In the evening, Governor Dayton and members of the delegation will attend a networking reception with members of the Minnesota Club of Shanghai; the club is comprised of business expatriates from Minnesota companies, alumni of Minnesota colleges and universities and anyone else who loves Minnesota.

Governor Dayton and the delegation will travel by air to Xian.

In the evening, Governor Dayton will meet privately with Governor Zhao Zhengyong of Shaanxi Province, which is Minnesota?s official Sister State in China.? The State of Minnesota and Shaanxi Province are celebrating the 30th anniversary of this partnership.? The signing of the sister-state agreement with Shaanxi Province in 1982 marked the official beginning of Minnesota?s relationship with China, and it set the stage for many of the business, cultural, educational and governmental ties that have followed.? Governor Dayton met with Governor Zhao when he visited Minnesota last year.?? Following the meeting, Governor Zhao and other Shaanxi Province officials will host a banquet for the delegation.

In the evening, Governor Dayton will host a farewell dinner for the delegation.
