The weather is getting warmer, thirsts will need to be quenched and chances are you will be partaking in some good ol? adult beverages this Summer while enjoying the great outdoors. While the drinks go down so smooth on a sweltering day, don?t lose sight that you are indeed ingesting calories and sugar that add up way more quickly than you may have thought, or choose to remember. Oh, that?s not to mention your body stored the calories as triglycerides (a type of fat) that are mostly hanging out around your abdomen, the most crappy place to feel the chub during the scantily clad months.
1 gram of alcohol has 7 calories, compared to only 4 calories for a gram of carbohydrates or protein and calories add up even more quickly for mixed drinks than for beer and wine. The standard 1.5 ounce serving of 80-proof alcohol has 96 calories even before you add any mixers. A 6-ounce serving of orange juice has 84 calories, then add a shot of alcohol to make it a screwdriver, and the calories more than double.
Most glasses of wine contain 125-150 calories, but that can double depending on the size of the glass, how full it is and how many times your friend refills it for you before it is empty.
Beer can range from 64-198 calories per 12 ounces, and is easier to keep track of since the amount is generally consistent.
A good way to save calories, and perhaps ingest more water (wishful thinking) is to
mix cocktails with bubbly water ( I love the natural lime flavor for my vodka ?soda?), club soda, low calorie juices, stevia, or sugar-free syrups for calorie savings. Fruit and vegetable juices in moderation can be OK choices because they are lower in calories than some other mixers, but be careful of fruit juices because the calories and sugars can add up quickly, not to mention the crappy food you crave when you drink too much sugar due to an insulin spike, which may lead to eating salty, fatty foods you?d normally avoid.

Believe me, I am all for celebrating for pretty much no real reason at all, but just be smart when doing so, I swear you and your brand new tankini will thank me. Try alternating your alcohol with a glass of water to stay hydrated, lower your calorie consumption and possibly prevent making a decision you would rather forget (no judgement here !)
