ROME, N.Y. -- With the thump of a ball and the roar of the crowd, the 40th year of the Bocce World Series is in full swing in Rome.
"As you can see, I mean, everybody is having a good time,? said Toccolana Club President Angelo Cianfrocco.
Good friends, food, and fun are what this weekend is all about."It's all about focus, having a good time, friends around, that's the technique I think,? said Bocce Player Nick Cignarale.
But Donna Ciotti said the mood changes, and techniques are put to the test, when game time comes."It's gets more competitive every year, and the younger players are starting to get more competitive."
Teams come from all over the country to compete in the Bocce World Series, and for many it's a family affair. Ciotti taught her daughters the game, and their team has won the women's title eleven times.
"We're family, we pick each other up, if one doesn't throw a good ball the other seems to pick that one up, they keep me in my place, my daughters keep me in my place, it's just fun playing because we're all family,? said Ciotti.
And, the competition is fierce. The winning women's team takes home $4,000, but it's not all about the money.
"Well they come down, they bocce. We have a lot of good food, sausages, hamburgers, and the people just like to gather around, good friends, you know", said Cianfrocco.
Whether you're socializing or playing, the World Series of Bocce is always a knocking good time. Wondering who will take home the title? Sunday is the last day of the competition and admission is free.
