Pennsylvania man suspected of killing three is arrested in Ohio

(Reuters) - Police in Ohio on Saturday arrested a Pennsylvania man suspected of fatally shooting three people near his hometown and fleeing with his 4-year-old daughter, officials said.

Police rescued the girl unharmed when they arrested the suspect, Kevin Cleeves, 36, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, at about 5 a.m. EDT, said Detective Sgt. Jordan Yacovone of the Austintown, Ohio, Police Department.

"The 4-year-old was with him. She's fine," he said.

Cleeves was arrested in the parking lot of a shopping plaza, he said, in Austintown, just west of Youngstown, Ohio. Officers spotted the car because of an Amber Alert, issued in cases of alleged child abductions.

The shootings occurred about 9 p.m. EDT on Friday in the driveway of a home in Quincy Township, Pennsylvania, southwest of Harrisburg, according to Pennsylvania State Trooper Adam Reed.

The three victims, all adults, were shot dead in a car, he said. Quincy Township is about 250 miles from Austintown. The identities of the dead were not immediately released.

Reed said he did not know the motive for the shootings but local media reports said Cleeves had confronted his wife about custody arrangements for their daughter Leia.

"He abducted his 4-year-old daughter from the scene of the shooting," Reed said.

Cleeves was jailed in Ohio awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania, authorities said.

The Unexpected Benefits Of Renting Condos On Vacation

Condos provide a number of key benefits for visitors traveling through an area. They are larger than traditional hotel rooms and offer many of the amenities of home. That makes them worthwhile, even with the slightly larger price tag. However, there is more to it than just that. If you are planning a vacation and considering renting one, do consider the key advantages to staying in a condo.

Location Is Ideal

One of the biggest benefits of renting one of the condos along the beach is that you likely have direct access to the beachfront and water. This offers a nice benefit that you may not have thought about unless you have been there before. Imagine carrying all of your gear from your car to the beach. Then, imagine packing it all up at the end of the day under the sun. It is not fun. What is worse than having to wash off that sand before you get into the car? When you rent a condo on the beach instead, you get the advantage of just walking a few feet into your home away from home. Most will offer spigots outside so you can rinse off with ease.

It's Okay to Stay in for Meals

Another key benefit of these larger homes is that they provide you with a furnished kitchen, in most cases. A simple to see benefit here is being able to eat a few meals here instead of paying for them at restaurants. Three meals a day at a restaurant is expensive. A hidden benefit you may not have thought about is the fact that you can go about your normal routine. The kids can lounge in their pj's, eat breakfast, and watch cartoons. You can read the paper and drink a cup of freshly made coffee. You can even get the kids milk in the middle of the night without having to wake up the entire family or head to the gas station. It is ultra convenient.

There are various benefits to renting condos for vacations. Even couples benefit from the additional privacy and spacious layout. Yet, until you have given yourself the opportunity to stay in one during a trip, you may not realize the full extent of the benefits of doing so provides. Go ahead and rent one to find out what it is likely to be able to have a home along the beach at the destination you are traveling to for your next trip. You may like it so much so that you do not want to go back to living in a hotel on any other trips. Condos are well worth the money you will invest in them.

A Contemporary Kitchen in Australia by Darren James | HomeDSGN ...

Brisbane-based interior design studio, Interiors by Darren James, has completed a contemporary kitchen design for an Australian home. The goal was to create a streamlined, high quality kitchen that was equally welcoming for a passionate home chef.

A Contemporary Kitchen in Australia by Darren James:

Precision, attention to detail and an appreciation for the finer things in life are qualities often associated with the German culture. So when the German owners engaged Interiors by Darren James to design and build their dream kitchen they wanted premium quality in every detail: design, materials, workmanship and finish. This project clearly demonstrates what is possible when you combine good design, the latest technical mechanisms, quality materials and handcraft production techniques ? a project that exceeds every expectation.

Whilst the clients requested an ultramodern design they still wanted it to suit their Australian lifestyle. Central to the brief was the need to satisfy an enthusiastic and demanding gourmand by creating a kitchen that ?feels like home? yet still packs a punch visually and supports the entertaining of family and friends. The result is a free flowing functional kitchen design that makes the best possible use of the available space in this long and narrow room.

The existing space
The original kitchen was small, cramped and non-functional. To pave the way for a larger space highly sought after by the clients, the diving wall that separated the previous kitchen and an unused sitting room was bought down ? a concept the clients hadn?t considered until now. The resulting space was a larger room, approximately 7.5 x 3.2m. Starting from scratch we were now able to square set all the walls, ceilings and windows. The existing windows and sliding doors were also removed and replaced with new double glazed windows.

Hidden work space hides the mess and reduced visual depth
To shorten the visual depth in such a long room, a scullery focused purely on function is placed at the rear of the room to hide the mess when entertaining and ensures the kitchen is kept clutter free. Housing a large side by side Miele Fridge-Freezer and providing storage for food and everyday bulky appliances, the scullery also acts as an out of the way prep zone. A stainless steel benchtop provides the ultimate surface in terms of hygiene, heat resistant and food preparation for this home chef who avidly enjoys cooking.

Wall Oven feature & room divider
A strategically placed wall oven feature surrounded by LED strip lighting is suspended 300mm off the floor and 300mm off the ceiling creating a unique floating look and provides access either side to the cleverly hidden scullery. Metal supports and bracing was incorporated into the construction of the wall and thicker timber framing was also used to ensure structural integrity.

A selected range of stainless steel Miele appliances included in the feature wall further enhance the cutting edge look whilst providing all the functional requirements of the clients? healthy cooking style. The black glass finish on the feature door and drawer fronts complement the ?piano finish? of the surrounding ?Ebony Maccassar?natural veneer. In keeping with the desired minimalist look, all the black glass fronts are handless and open electronically using Blums ?Servo drive? mechanisms. Thanks to this technology with the simple press of the button the wall oven feature easily transforms from a stunning furniture piece to a fully functional storage space.

To complete the high class finish, black ?intivo? drawers, black internals and 10mm glass shelves are incorporated ensuring this feature wall remains a showpiece whether open or closed. It is important to note that due to the clients? sensitivity to formaldehyde all the board that was used throughout the kitchen both internal and external was ?EO? class substrate.

Functional cooking and cleaning zones
A number of work zones within the kitchen ensure the space operates efficiently at all times. The cooking zone includes an induction cooktop for efficient cooking whilst the Neff rangehood is cleverly concealed in the piano finish ?Ebony Maccassar? natural veneer which is highlighted by LED strip lighting. To enhance the overall look the veneer work on the rangehood feature box is grain matched and mitred to create a superior and seamless finish. The sink area consists of a large single bowl ?professional series? Oliveri sink and a water efficient KWC Inox vege spray mixer ensures even bulky baking items and trays are easy to clean. A three bin system is placed at the bottom of the sink cupboard on a servo drive mechanism allowing the client to easily open without the need of any hands.

A zip hydro boil with its own font and drain unit is also incorporated into the sink area. Due to its placement above the dishwasher a thicker benchtop was required to handle the drain depth that extends from the bottom of the zip font. For this reason the benchtop is 100mm thick and to create visual impact the ?Metero? Staron benchtop reduces to 20mm over and into the cooktop area.

Practical Island Bench that packs a punch?.
The visually stunning island bench serves dual function purposes. Staron ? solid surface was selected for its contemporary appearance as well as for its durability and has been raised 20mm to define a casual seating and dining area.

The client has a passion for baking, making her own pastry, pasta and breads. Like many a pastry chef she prefers working on natural stone. Therefore a 20mm piece of ?Calacutta? marble was selected and inlayed into the 100mm Staron ?Metero? benchtop. The gorgeous showpiece slab gives the impression of elegance, adds visual character and complements the other natural elements perfectly.

Piano finish natural veneer open-shelves supported with steel rods to eliminate the need for visible gables are located either side of the island to house the clients loved collection of frequently used cookbooks. A custom made stainless steel light rack provides functional task lighting, bottle glass storage and further enhances the professional look of this ?home chef? style kitchen. Again, supports are positioned between the trusses in the ceiling to provide appropriate support.

Storage
Storage has been well considered in this kitchen with a scullery providing ample space for groceries as well as specific areas that have been custom designed to house items such as recipe books, small appliances and cutting boards. Every storage item has been thoughtfully located in terms of function and frequency of use. Storage space has been optimized with the use of easy access drawers using Blum?s slow motion drawers. Again the kitchen has been fitted out with the full range of Blum organizational accessories including plate racks, spice racks, knife racks as well as ?orgaline? for cutlery and utensil.

Luxurious quality finishes
One of the main requests of the owners was to include luxurious quality finishes to create maximum visual impact. A combination of different textures and finishes were incorporated to ensure high esthetic qualities as well as top performance. This was created by creatively combining an array of high end materials and textures: The piano finish ?Ebony Macassar? natural veneer, black painted glass, automotive high gloss grey lacquer, stainless steel, Calacutta Oro marble and Staron Tempest all combine to create a sophisticated and visually stunning space.

The incorporation of the mirror splash back not only adds to the sense of space but ensures nothing is taken away the sophisticated simplicity that this kitchen already boasts.

Light it up
LED stip lighting is thoughtfully placed for both ambient, feature and practical purposes. It particularly highlights the stunning design of cabinetry features seen throughout this kitchen. Natural lighting is maximised with the inclusion of a sliding door in the scullery which conveniently opens out to the alfresco area. LED Downlights have been thoughtfully placed throughout the kitchen to illuminate task areas and work surfaces.

?On The Day Of Our Wedding, My Fiance Left Me At The Altar?

black bride cryingDear Gay Best Friend,

You?ve got questions? He?s got answers!

Email your questions to Your Gay Best Friend at: girlworkonyou@aol.com

Dear Gay Best Friend,

I don?t know where to begin, but I need your advice on where to go from here.?So here?s the story.

I have been in a relationship with this man for four years.?Two years into the relationship, he proposed marriage which I proudly accepted.?However, throughout our relationship I NEVER met anyone face to face, nor via phone?from?his family ? no kids, no friends, no church family. NO ONE!?I constantly questioned this, but was always told that since these loved ones lived in another state it was difficult to get them all together. So, I let it go.

Like HelloBeautiful on Facebook to stay keep up with your gay best friend:

Anyway, the wedding planning was taking place quite smoothly, yet there were times when I constantly had to nag him for his list of guests and their addresses. Needless to say that he NEVER came through with a complete list for me. Yet, he told me that all of his guests knew all the pertinent wedding information.

Now, on to the good part. Two days before the wedding, he tells me that his mom (who lives in another state)?became very ill and was hospitalized in intensive care.?Therefore, he told me that some family members would not be attending the wedding.?The very next day, he claimed that there was NO change in his mother?s condition and that more of his family members would not be attending and he was thinking of going to?see his?mom also.?So, I responded with, ?I understand your feelings for your mom, but how do we handle all the other guests and family that have traveled for this big day???Well, the next day comes around, (which is the wedding day), and I get two calls that morning. First, he called and said that his mom took a turn for the worse. Then the second call, (an hour later from the first), he called and said that his mom had die.?So, I immediately jumped into action by going to him to console him for his loss and to try to arrange for him to leave at some point that day to meet other family members to handle arrangements for his mom.?While all of this is going on, I called around to tell all the other guests the news and that we would be delaying the ceremony for an hour so that the groom could get himself together, and he would be leaving right after the ceremony.

While guests are arriving to the church they find the church locked and no one inside.?Out from nowhere the groundskeeper appears and asked why the guests are there??They responded they were there for a wedding. The groundskeeper informs them no wedding was set to take place.?After many phone calls back and forth between my guests, the groundskeeper, and my potential groom it was discovered that the groom?NEVER asked his pastor to officiate?our wedding, nor did he book the church for?the wedding. By that time it seemed to me, and others, that he simply DID NOT want to get married, aside from the grief he was suffering from losing his mother, which looked suspect after finding out the truth about the ?locked? church.?So, it was confirmed two days later that the groom lied about his mother?s death because he wanted to cover up the fact of NOT completing his wedding task as he should have.?He claims he failed to do his part of the planning and came up with all these lies because he was scared?and afraid that I would leave him for being lazy and procrastinating.?I was devastated and humiliated beyond belief that?I could have been left at the altar like that.?To this day, this man constantly calls and asks for forgiveness and another chance at love with me. But, why would I even want to give him an ounce of my time?? Am I being too harsh to someone that I undoubtedly truly did love? Or, should I just admit that I deserve better and let him and his deceitfulness go elsewhere??? The Jilted Bride

Dear Jilted Bride,

Girl, your story takes the wedding cake, ceremony, party, and honeymoon! As a good girlfriend of mine from college says, ?He is doing stunts and shows!? LOL! That was a fierce stunt and show. He went through all that trouble, inconvenience, and lies to dump you in front of everybody. And, the award goes to?YOUR GROOM!

Believe me, I feel sorry for you and the embarrassment you must feel, but, damn. Dude was cold-blooded, and cold-hearted! You should have did the Madea and boiled you some hot grease, and uhm?.well, no, I don?t condone violence, but you should have went upside that fool?s head.

Okay, let?s start at the beginning of your letter. You never met ANY of his family, friends, or church members, yet you agreed to marry this man. Hmmm, that was foolish and na?ve. Don?t you think a man, especially one who is in love and ready to marry the woman of his dreams, would take her to meet his family, especially his mother? Ask yourself why did you agree to marry a man and not know his family. I don?t care how many times you asked him and he gave you the run around about them living too far and it?s difficult to get them all together. No problem, the two of you could have driven, hopped a train, plane, or bus and went to visit them. The only important person you really needed to meet was his mother.

But, let?s move on. You start planning the wedding and you ask him for his wedding list of attendees. The list you never got because it would?ve had the names and addresses of his family members, which meant you would have had access to them. A man who has something to hide would never divulge this information, and your man has a lot of things he?s hiding. Ask yourself what is he hiding? Why won?t he let you get close to his family or meet any of them? Girl, I bet any amount of money that you know the answer, but you?ve got to be willing to ask the question and be open to receiving the answer.

Now, the juicy part of the story is that the days prior to the wedding his mother suddenly becomes ill. Then some of his family members say they are not coming. Then the day of the wedding, that morning to be exact, his mother takes a turn for the worse, and finally, yes, finally, the dramatic and climactic moment before he is to come to the church, he calls to tell you that his mother didn?t make it and she has died. Meanwhile, all your guests, friends, and family members are arriving at the church, by the way, which is locked, and the groundskeeper tells them there is no wedding happening there. WOW! Honey, this is better than Days of Our Lives, All My Children, One Life To Live, and General Hospital.

But, the kicker, and Tee-hee-hee, is that his mother didn?t die. No, she is alive. And your groom gives you some lame excuse of why he lied and went through all that deception is because he feared you would leave him because he was lazy and a procrastinator. Girl! Honey! Ms. Thang! If you believe that then you deserve what happened to you. That fool played you. He lied to you, and that bum had the gall to lie on his pastor and mother. He manipulated you and your guests. And, he deceived everybody. Chile, you answered your own damn question when you asked me why would you give him another ounce of your time. First of all, why is he calling you? And, why are you even answering your damn phone? Why are you talking to this low-life? Chile, your cousins and ?em (Pookie, Ray-Ray, and Black) should have whooped his ass all up and down the street. What he did was trifling, low-down, and dirty.

Look here, Ms. Jilted Bride, yes, you do deserve better. You deserve genuine love, genuine trust, and genuine honesty from a man who is willing to share all of himself with you. And, that means a man who will introduce you to his family ? all of them. And, I know how important it is to say you have a man, get married, and build your own family, but don?t let your desperation and inability to follow your instincts cloud your judgment, and spot the Bull-ish! The right man for you will come along, but you?ve got to love yourself first. Don?t let your sunglass filter prevent you from seeing dumb foolishness coming at you. Build you up and the man for you will build with you. As far as your EX, let that buzzard kick rocks and ride away on his Big Wheel. You don?t have time for childish games! ? Junior Dos Santos Thinks Alistair Overeem Talks A Lot Of Sh*t

Junior Dos SantosEven nice guys have their limits. Junior Dos Santos is considered to be one of the nicest guys in and out of the UFC. Yet even he is starting to get annoyed with Alistair Overeem?s recent accusations that he is scared of fighting the Demolition Man.

Anyone that watched Junior Dos Santos coach on The Ultimate Fighter could see what a genuinely nice guy the UFC world heavyweight champion is. Even his opposing coach Brock Lesnar said how he grew to like Junior filming the show. That is why any kind of trash talk coming from JDS is a rare event.

Alistair Overeem is slowly bringing an aggressive side out of the champion. Overeem was scheduled to fight Dos Santos for the title back in May. The fight was cancelled after Overeem was popped for high levels of testosterone on a pre-fight drug test. Ever since that happened, both fighters have taken small potshots at each other in the media, building up what could be an epic heavyweight title fight in 2013.

Overeem was recently asked about JDS in an interview with Ariel Helwani. Overeem is either incredibly arrogant or a highly smart businessman because he is starting the promotional build early for a future fight with Junior Dos Santos.

?For me, I?m a fighter, I?m here to kick ass, I don?t care who I?m fighting. I?m already a three-time world champion, I?ll fight anybody, anywhere, so I?m going to leave that to the gentlemen of the UFC to decide. I know [Junior dos Santos] didn?t want to fight me in the first place. I know he was happy [about the NSAC decision], I just know that.

I hit very hard, I?ve knocked out a lot of people, I?ve submitted a lot of people. I am, in any way you look at it, a legitimate threat to his title. I?m gonna get it. He knows that. Cain (Velasquez) is also doing very well right now, but Cain doesn?t hit as hard as I do. Cain is smaller than I am and has less experience. I?m the biggest legitimate threat out there, that?s why he?s afraid.?

The world champion was not amused at the idea that he is afraid of anyone. Junior had a chance to respond and was caught a little off guard when Helwani asked him whether he was really afraid of Alistair Overeem.

?I am afraid? HAHA. Man the school of Chael Sonnen is going to have more students because now he [Overeem] is going to start a lot of sh*t just because the UFC gave Chael the opportunity to fight Anderson again. Man I am not afraid of him, I am not afraid of anybody here, if he thinks he?s better than me, come to fight with me and soonhe feels the power of my hands he is going to change his mind.?

Dos Santos will have to get past Cain Velasquez first, but I have a feeling that Overeem and Dos Santos are going to talk themselves into one of the biggest fights in UFC history. Combat sports fans love a great heavyweight but casual sports fans love trash talking even more.

Auditors say billions likely wasted in Iraq work

WASHINGTON (AP) ? After years of following the paper trail of $51 billion in U.S. taxpayer dollars provided to rebuild a broken Iraq, the U.S. government can say with certainty that too much was wasted. But it can't say how much.

In what it called its final audit report, the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction Funds on Friday spelled out a range of accounting weaknesses that put "billions of American taxpayer dollars at risk of waste and misappropriation" in the largest reconstruction project of its kind in U.S. history.

"The precise amount lost to fraud and waste can never be known," the report said.

The auditors found huge problems accounting for the huge sums, but one small example of failure stood out: A contractor got away with charging $80 for a pipe fitting that its competitor was selling for $1.41. Why? The company's billing documents were reviewed sloppily by U.S. contracting officers or were not reviewed at all.

With dry understatement, the inspector general said that while he couldn't pinpoint the amount wasted, it "could be substantial."

Asked why the exact amount squandered can never be determined, the inspector general's office referred The Associated Press to a report it did in February 2009 titled "Hard Lessons," in which it said the auditors ? much like the reconstruction managers themselves ? faced personnel shortages and other hazards.

"Given the vicissitudes of the reconstruction effort ? which was dogged from the start by persistent violence, shifting goals, constantly changing contracting practices and undermined by a lack of unity of effort ? a complete accounting of all reconstruction expenditures is impossible to achieve," the report concluded.

In that same report, the inspector general, Stuart Bowen, recalled what then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld asked when they met shortly after Bowen started in January 2004: "Why did you take this job? It's an impossible task."

By law, Bowen's office reports to both the secretary of defense and the secretary of state. It goes out of business in 2013.

Bowen's office has spent more than $200 million tracking the reconstruction funds, and in addition to producing numerous reports, his office has investigated criminal fraud that has resulted in 87 indictments, 71 convictions and $176 million in fines and other penalties. These include civilians and military members accused of kickbacks, bribery, bid-rigging, fraud, embezzlement and outright theft of government property and funds.

Much, however, apparently got overlooked. Example: A $35 million Pentagon project was started in December 2006 to establish the Baghdad airport as an international economic gateway, and the inspector general found that by the end of 2010 about half the money was "at risk of being wasted" unless someone else completed the work.

Of the $51 billion that Congress approved for Iraq reconstruction, about $20 billion was for rebuilding Iraqi security forces and about $20 billion was for rebuilding the country's basic infrastructure. The programs were run mainly by the Defense Department, the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development.

A key weakness found by Bowen's inspectors was inadequate reviewing of contractors' invoices.

In some cases invoices were checked months after they had been paid because there were too few government contracting officers. Bowen found a case in which the State Department had only one contracting officer in Iraq to validate more than $2.5 billion in spending on a DynCorp contract for Iraqi police training.

"As a result, invoices were not properly reviewed, and the $2.5 billion in U.S. funds were vulnerable to fraud and waste," the report said. "We found this lack of control to be especially disturbing since earlier reviews of the DynCorp contract had found similar weaknesses."

In that case, the State Department eventually reconciled all of the old invoices and as of July 2009 had recovered more than $60 million.

The report touched on a problem that cropped up in virtually every major aspect of the U.S. war effort in Iraq, namely, the consequences of fighting an insurgency that proved more resilient than the Pentagon had foreseen. That not only made reconstruction more difficult, dangerous and costly, but also left the U.S. military unprepared for the grind of multiple troop deployments, the tactics of an adaptable insurgency and the complexity of battlefield wounds. It also left the U.S. government short of the expertise it needed to monitor contractors.

Although the audit was labeled as final, a spokesman for Bowen's office, Christopher M. Griffith, said several more will be done to provide additional details on what the U.S. got for its reconstruction dollars and what was wasted.
